If a projector is included in a 4D bow cinema, you should be careful. It is the responsibility of the purchaser to ensure that the supplied projector meets the demands of your home, club or business. If you want to save money, you can often achieve this by buying a projector yourself. You are most likely to find some outstanding deals online, second hand or at your local retailer.

But which projector should it be? What is certain is that you will probably be surprised how cheap projectors have become and how big the offer is. To further complicate the matter, projector manufacturers release new models every 3 to 6 months.

The image format

It is important to know the image format your bow cinema has been developed for. Formats are either mentioned in pixels (eg 3840 x 2160 pixels) by the ratio eg. 16:10 or given a name eg. 4K, Full HD, HD, WGA or XGA. 3D projectors, where glasses are worn, are generally not recommended.

Types

Projectors can be divided into 3 categories. “Normal” projectors, Short Throw & Ultra Short Throw Projectors. These terms describe how far the projector is installed from the 4D Target.

Light source

Traditional projectors are powered by a light bulb. However more and more LED projector and laser projectors are flooding the market. These new technologies come with some great advantages. Most bow cinemas systems are compatible with any type of projector. It’s all about finding something that suits your budget and your own requirements.

Practical additional functions

Higher quality projectors have automatic calibration and automatically focus. Cheaper models rarely come with such features. For a fixed installation, these functions play a minor role. But when it comes to mobile systems that need to be moved more often, auto calibration is a blessing. It does not matter in which angle the projector stands to the target, the picture is adjusted to a perfect rectangle at the push of a button.

Projector part of the package?

If a bow cinema already comes with a projector it is worth investigating?
Ask about the model and how it will serve the requirements of your indoor areas. How bright is it in your shooting area and what color target are you using? Compare the price. Often you find cheaper products that are much brighter than the once coming with a packaged deal. Brightness is everything.

Where buy?

It does not really matter. Whether you purchase at Amazon or with your favorite local retailer. Good deals are everywhere. Even second hand projectors could be a really good option.

Price

Depending on your requirements suitable high quality projectors range between 500 and 1200 Euros. Pay attention. A well lid target will make all the difference. The most expensive projector is always the one that does not meet your requirements! If you want to save, inquire with the manufacturer of your bow cinema and compare models. Brightness is everything.

The differences between different products can be significant.
